Sten

More photogrammetry.

With mysterious math and a whole lot of photos, you can recreate objects digitally in 3D. The stone below is fairly simple and was one of my first attempts. An old machine with very complex shapes and geometry became a later project.

By analyzing details from photos taken from different angles, you can calculate where points are in relation to each other and to the camera in three dimensions. You build a so-called point cloud and can then create a mesh and use the images to generate a realistic texture. By feeding in coordinates from, for example, GPS, sensor data (tilt, rotation, and so on) from the camera, physical measurements, and other bits, you can increase the precision and push the uses from single-digit cool to triple-digit epic.

Update: the newer stone variants and the point cloud live here now. The gravestone got its own comparison, because stone and Stone was clearly a terrible naming strategy.
