I remembered the math

I built a hydra, made a text editor, then remembered the foundation of the whole site.

I actually tried to put the Control Room and Workbench into one simplified surface where I could do all the work.

I created a goddamn hydra.

Or, more precisely: I previously had 200 snakes. Untenable, obviously. So I merged them, with the explicit goal of creating something I could maintain and develop without an LLM, or an HDR-SLM, doing the heavy lifting for me.

I failed. I failed badly.

I swore to myself, and to the docs, not to trust that cursed space again.

I also got tired of waiting a minute every time I tried to start the damn server. So I created a text editor to get rid of all the AI slop that a friendly neighbourhood Codex sibling insisted on putting on every public surface.

That was the better idea, which I have slowly, very slowly and incrementally built up further.

Then I stumbled across something revolutionary, something new, radical and totally unexpected: something I had forgotten.

Because of course I had.

It was only the foundation of the entire site, more or less.

GPU-accelerated spatial GIS black magic math and other difficult words.

That is what I have been spending the last day or two on.

I also spun up WSL, which was way easier than I would have imagined. Again, of course it was.

The result, depending on the path, ranges from a few times faster to completely stupid triple-digit speedups compared to CPU, plus a buttload of additional capabilities that I am still discovering.

It has been a wild ride, as usual.

If you want the recent public evidence instead of this little confession, start with My graphic card built this post and Gpu post nr 2. That is where the current spatial/GPU detour is already leaking into the site.

We’ll see how much of this survives contact with reality.
